Newsells Park Stud is leading consignor at Tattersalls Yearling Sale

For the eighth consecutive year Newsells Park Stud was the leading consignor at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 with a turnover of 13,415,000gns and average price of 638,810gns for 21 lots sold.

The highlight of the consignment was the 3,700,000gns sale of the Frankel colt out of Aljazzi, knocked down Amo racing’s Kia Joorabchian. A daughter of Shamardal, Aljazzi won the Gr.2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes in 2019. She was bred and raced by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar, and was added to the Newsells Park broodmare band in 2018 at the not inconsiderable cost of 1,000,000gns.

Kia Joorabchian said: “The boys loved him, we have a lot of people around us who really liked him, and we couldn’t really let him go. We want to keep the family tight and see how it works out. Obviously if he’s a very good horse he’s going to be a stallion.”

Another highlight of the sale was Lot 349, the Wootton Bassett colt out of Qabala realising 2,200,000gns and also selling to Amo Racing. From the direct family of US Gr.1 horses Flute, Filimbi, Weep No More, he is a half-brother to the promising unbeaten three-year-old Raammee and his dam won the Gr.3 Nell Gwyn Stakes and was placed third in the Gr.1 1000 Guineas.

Amo Racing’s agent Alex Elliott said after the purchase: “I think we have bought two serious Wootton Bassett colts today. Qabala’s Persian King colt Raammee looks a bit of a freak, his performance at Kempton was pretty special, and then he won at Newcastle and was equally as smart. Wootton Bassett is an upgrade on most stallions and this colt goes back to a Juddmonte family. He has the potential to be a very special horse.”

Juddmonte was the buyer of the third colt from the consignment to realise a seven-figure sum having purchased Lot 364, the Night Of Thunder colt out of Qushchi, for 1,050,000gns. Bred by St Albans Bloodstock, raised and sold by Newsells Park Stud, he is half-brother to Mrs Sippy, winner of Gr.2 Glens Falls Stakes and Listed Prix des Tourelles, plus second in the Gr.1 Flower Bowl Stakes, and Phantom Flight, a multiple Stakes winner in 2025/2024, from the family of Grand Lodge.

Reflecting on the sale overall, Newsells Park Stud’s General Manager Julian Dollar said: “I think we got very lucky. It probably wasn’t our best ever draft of horses but we got extremely well paid on the two or three exceptionally nice ones. We struggled with some, and overall we came away better than I thought we would. I’m very grateful and feel very fortunate but I’m certainly not taking it for granted.”
